The Official Website for the Emily Marie Benson Memorial Scholarship at NAU
Team Emily was initiated in loving memory of Emily Marie Benson.
Team Emily is a group of dedicated athletes of all levels, ranging from walkers to elite runners (under the direction of Olympian, Coach and friend Jack Daniels of the High Altitude Training Center at NAU). By raising donations in memory of Emily Marie Benson, our mission is to make a huge difference in the lives of students with daily medical challenges by awarding a $10,000 yearly scholarship to Northern Arizona University.
Team Emily was formed in 2004 after the untimely death of our beloved Emily. Emily was only 14 years old. At just 18 months old, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. At 12 years old, she was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. At fourteen, she was traveling to New York City to see a specialist when on the first eve there, she went into cardiac arrest. Emily was a true blessing to all, even at the time of her death. She was able to donate three of her organs to help save others. She still continues to bless us daily.
The funds for the scholarship are raised fully on generous donations from people like you. The donations can be made thru personal donations, sponsoring a runner for Team Emily in the Rock’n’Roll Marathon, or participating in the Emily Marie Benson Memorial Golf Tournament.
