<font size="3" face="Tahoma">Established by Mark and Valerie Caro and the family and friends of Emily Marie Benson, this scholarship will cover tuition, fees and on-campus housing to the recipient through the award of a $10,000 scholarship. Any excess funds will be made available to the student to use for such items as food, books and medical expenses. Preference will be given to an incoming freshman; however, other applicants meeting the aforementioned criteria are encouraged to apply. <ol>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Be a U. S. citizen.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at Northern Arizona University.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Have a significant medical condition and/or disability.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Provide a resume describing his/her personality, activities, awards, special perform</font><font size="3" face="Tahoma">ance and talents, and any other information that the applicant believes to be relevant.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Submit a one-page essay describing how he/she is able to see past the barriers of his/her medical condition and how it benefits and inspires them to reach goals and overcome challenges on a daily basis.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Submit a one-page letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows him/her very well. The purpose of this letter is to provide information about the person, not their academic background. The letter is to be signed, dated and placed in a sealed envelope and submitted with the scholarship application.</font></li>
    <li><font size="3" face="Tahoma">Submit a one-page letter from his/her current physician describing the applicant, their attitude toward their medical condition, and the specifics of that condition, along with any other information the physician deems relevant. The letter is also to be signed, dated and placed in a sealed envelope and submitted with the scholarship application.<br /></font>   </li>
